Girl at the Rock Shows

I honestly have never quite understood math rock. As the name points you to, I feel like there’s just a bit too much thinking that goes into the style. Whether it’s thinking about where the beat is or how the notes connect together– it’s just too much for me and I have never been good at math. All that being said, what Amoeba Arena has done with this style in their track “Polyatomic” has me feeling a little less intimidated by math rock.

Amoeba Arena has taken some math rock elements and blended them perfect with a very midwest emo vibe creating a super cool vibe that is easy to latch onto but, at the same time, makes you feel things. Sure, the guitarwork is still a bit complicated for me to understand but, at the same time, it adds a little razzle dazzle to this track that, without, would leave you with a fairly hollow song. I feel like there are moments where the vocals are a bit buried under the instrumentation throughout “Polyatomic” but I also kind of like the DIY vibe that this gives to the track. Amoeba Arena just wrapped up working on their debut EP ‘Absolutely’. It’s out now and features “Polyatomic” as the second track so, if you like this, make sure to check out the entire EP for more genius work from this amazing up and coming band!
