Girl at the Rock Shows

Sky Island is a fairly new band to the local Twin Cities scene but that hasn’t stopped them from making some serious waves. The biggest wave thus far for this young band is the release of their brand new song “Monday Hit”. Okay, I know it’s not a Monday but I feel like you should still stop whatever you are doing and check out this song.

“Monday Hit” is a catchy little track that has a very dreamy quality to it at the beginning. It’s slow, steady, and almost ambient but it rises and falls in a beautiful way where you get to see the strength that Sky Island has behind them. Honestly, this is one of those songs that I just got lost in. Sometimes that can come off as a bad thing as that means it doesn’t catch my attention but, in the case of “Monday Hit”, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The lush atmospheric sounds and hauntingly beautiful vocals mixed with a stellar guitar solo about two minutes in had me completely captivated throughout this track to the point where I couldn’t do anything more than just sit back and let this track wash over me. Although a fairly low-key and lo-fi leaning track, you can tell that Sky Island has some power and some tricks up their sleeves. I seriously can not wait for them to continue making waves in this scene.
