I’ve been on a CSS kick ever since they announced a tour that will be stopping in Minneapolis (which I will absolutely be at because I honestly didn’t think I’d ever get to see the band live). What does that have to do with “Invisible Wall” from Jewelia? Well, although super different than my normal share, I am getting strong CSS vibes from this track and it just hit me perfectly.
A little 80s synth-pop mixed with a little 90s alt with a dash of 00s indie pop would be the best way to describe this track but even that doesn’t do the sound of “Invisible Wall” justice. It’s an infectious little bop with super dynamic vocals that go from super smooth almost angelic sounding to something a bit more severe and electronic in the blink of an eye. That stark contrast is mirrored in the instrumentation of this sound that gives you a beat that will definitely get stuck in your head upon first listen. The video is a bit bizarre but I feel like that just adds to the charm of this song. There’s something playful about this song that I can’t quite put my finger on but that acts as the icing on the cake to the perfection that is “Invisible Wall” from Jewelia.
