Did you miss the fact that “Don’t Sweat It” from Taken Alive came out last week? Are you living under a rock and don’t know who Taken Alive is? Don’t worry, I’m here to help you and to introduce you to this amazing song from this absolutely killer band.
The story behind “Don’t Sweat It” is one that is painfully relatable. It’s all about putting on that smile even though you are slowly and painfully dying on the inside. I love the fact that you feel tension build towards the beginning of this song until it eventually snaps creating a perfectly curated breakdown that seems to mirror those days where we just give up and give into the darkness building up inside of ourselves. As if this message/ lyrical content wasn’t enough to get you hooked on this song, the power here is great. Sure, there’s a breakdown towards the end and the angst and tension that builds up throughout this song comes in the form of a fairly aggressive vocals but, overall, I found this song to have an almost comforting vibe about it. The catchy chorus mixed with a dynamic post-hardcore vibe left me wanting so much more from this band and I think I’ll avoid work for a wee bit longer and dig more into what this Long Island, New York-based band has out there.
