I don’t have TikTok. There, I said it. I’m resisting. Honestly, I just don’t have the brainwaves left for any other social media platform. On top of that, I am the definition of a mindless scroller. Once I start, it’s super hard for me to stop so I figured it’s just best to not add that app to my phone. Maybe that’s why I’m just now hearing “Kerosene” from Off The Coast. This song came out a year ago and the band has a huge TikTok following but this is my first introduction to them. Maybe it’ll be yours too or maybe you’re much younger than me and already know about it. Regardless, this song is worth your attention today.

Off the Coast is a band from Boston, Massachusetts that has a very high-energy sound. Okay, that phrase is overused– “high-energy”– but I really mean it here. Right off the bat, you’re given an ode to old school Panic at the Disco. There’s a crisp and clear theatrical element that radiates throughout this track but it’s most prominent at the beginning. As the song moves on, you enter more of a classic alt-rock world. Don’t get me wrong, you still get drama throughout this song but that musical shift is genius. The things that stood out to me most throughout this three and a half minute song is the vocals. They are, again, so crisp and clear and have a definite sense of power yet they balance out with the intricate instrumentation in a perfect way. If you’re looking for some drama for your day or something to just shock the system a wee bit, make sure to spend some time with “Kerosene” from Off The Coast.
