Girl at the Rock Shows

Are avocados vegetables? I only ask because that was the quotation that was given to me when Wine Fault sent over their song “Alf Life”. Okay, there was more than that one line (where they claim that avocados are not vegetables) but that line plus the fact that my youngest cat’s name is Alfie (Alf for sort) meant that I was intrigued and so excited to check out this new track from Wine Fault.

Just like I was instantly caught by some of the lines that I saw in the submission, I was instantly caught by the power that this song starts off with. The shouted vocals mixed with the controlled yet chaotic guitars and drums instantly caught my attention. “Alf Life” has a very At The Drive In creativity meets IDLES intensity vibe to it. There’s a lot more to this song but, if I had to simmer it down, that’s the closest I could get to describing this track correctly. I love the fact that, although intense and, at times, powerfully chaotic, there’s something very calm and chill about this track. Even as the end explodes into a wall of sound, you can feel something being held back by Wine Fault creating the perfect amount of tension and intrigue.
