I feel like it’s safe to assume that the pandemic was a weird (and terrible) time for all of us. I know we are years past it but it’s something that I think we will all look back on and just shake our heads. “Bliss” from BEACH BØNES addresses this but wraps up the deep thoughts in a perfectly catchy bop.
This song is pure pop-punk-perfection with a little edge of pop sensibilities to really get you hooked. I love how smooth yet raw the vocals come off. They remind me of everything from Saturdays at Your Place to The Front Bottoms with the heart-on-sleeve style. Although they aren’t flawless, they are perfect. I feel like the angst and aggression that you hear build and fall throughout this song really showcases the multitude of emotions that we all went through during lockdown. “Bliss” is definitely a sarcastic look back during that time when you first listen to this track but, after the fifth time listening through this song, I realized that this song can apply to just life in general. It’s about frustration and things not going right– you know– how life can be pure “Bliss”.
