Although I was at a show last night to celebrate a friend’s birthday, I’m not writing about it. My time was spent celebrating my friend and the music was honestly an after thought. Because of this, I didn’t have a review to write this morning or photos to sort through. This means I am already caught up on my day job stuff, have cleared out my inboxes for all of my other various jobs, and am already hitting the ground running. It feels good and it feels like I’m ready to kick today into high gear by checking out a new track from Rose Hotel.
I know I like to share fast and intense tracks first thing in the morning because I feel like it gets the blood pumping but that’s not what you’ll get from this song. Rose Hotel has a very calm and almost quiet sound that is very unlike my normal shares but something about “King and a Pawn” had me absolutely hooked. It’s a little folksy with a touch of Fleetwood Mac in there and an undeniable sense of heart drenching every single word and beat of the track. From the lyricism to the vocals and all the way to the instrumentation, there is true beauty throughout this song that I hope will have you just and stunned and in love as it has me. “King and a Pawn” is off of Rose Hotel’s upcoming album ‘A Pawn Surrender’ so, if you like this, don’t worry there’s more to come from this amazing Atlanta-based singer-songwriter. I also highly urge you to check out her self-release 2019 debut album ‘I Will Only Come When It’s A Yes’ because like “King and a Pawn”, it’s a deafeningly beautiful album through and through.
