Do you ever feel isolated? Okay, that was a silly question. We all do. You could be in a crowd at a sold-out concert yet still feel this odd disconnect from everything around you. It’s not a good feeling but it’s one that we all deal with from time to time. That’s what “Mr. Man” from The Hypnatwists is about.
The Hypnatwists are a trio from Salem, Oregon that clearly embraces the DIY ethos while bringing a polished sense of perfection to the scene. “Mr. Man”, in particular, hits with a raw sense of energy that begs to be seen live with the smell of stale beer and the feeling of sweat dripping down your back. Okay, that doesn’t sound love to the majority, but to a concert addict like me, it sounds like bliss. A lot is happening in this song, and I feel like The Hypnatwists really keep you on the edge of your seat with the drama-filled ebb and flow showcased in this three-minute and forty-second song. As mentioned, this song, as the band puts it, “explores modern isolation and the quiet fears that keep us disconnected.” I love that you can feel that sense of tension throughout this song but also feel a triumphant energy at points that seem to urge you to become self-aware of this feeling of isolation and disconnect. It’s a powerful track from a powerful band so make sure to spend some time with not only “Mr. Man” today, but also The Hypnatwists in general.
