I’ve heard horror stories about “Bad Neighbour(s)” but, thankfully, do not have my own. I’ve become super good friends with some of my neighbors both current and old, and have other neighbors that I’ve never even met. This has nothing to do with “Snarling,” the new song from Brisbane-based Bad Neighbour, other than the band name, so please do not let this seemingly random intro make you think anything about this band until you check out this song.

The beginning of this track is so soft and sweet. It’s almost too sweet with the tenderness and emotion that comes out of every word. You don’t lose that tenderness as the entire band kicks into this song after about thirty seconds; instead, that emotion is enhanced and takes over your entire being. I love the way the vocals never lose the sweetness laid out in those first few tender seconds of “Snarling” but how, at the same time, they seem to grow and build with subtle moments of angst and no shortage of powerful emotion. This song dabbles the line between emo and punk in a beautiful way and in a way that makes it hard to fully compare this band to anyone else out there right now. I could see band names like Pup and The Menzingers being thrown into the mix, but also something a bit more intense like Hot Mulligan or even Being As An Ocean (although that’s more because of the emotional power of this track, not so much the overall tone). Long story short, “Snarling” from Bad Neighbour is a powerful song that is absolutely worth your attention this morning.
