I don’t know where the time is going, or how it’s already Thursday, but here we are —Thursday, and I still have what feels like a whole week’s worth of work to fit in before the end of the week. I’m not going to let that get the best of me. Honestly, I’m so sick of trying to stay so in control of everything when, at the end of the day, I can only control what I can control. I will not be scared of what happens if I don’t get it all done, because, again, I can only do what I can do, and I can only control what I can control (can you tell that this is what I have been repeating to myself in my head since I woke up?) This mentality was the perfect setting to check out “Little Leaf,” the new song from Ferdinand the Bull.

As songwriter Nick Snyder says, “This song came from a time in my life when I was trying so hard to find some control in my life. I was facing the torrent of my life—self-doubt, fear, shame—but somehow finding that there was still beauty in the world. The wonderful duality of letting go and realizing it’s okay to not have control of everything. That relinquishment can be how you find your way—fighting the current can be why you’re stuck in place, instead of moving forward the way you’re supposed to go. Just like a leaf in a river. My fear has kept me from so much, and that is one of the big themes of this EP.”

Like I said, perfect for today and, really, any day. “Little Leaf” is perfectly chill and relaxed, but there’s no denying the power that comes behind the song. It’s the kind of song that will pick you up on your worst days, where you are desperate to be picked up, but it can also just comfort you and let you cry if that’s what you want. All of this relates to the “not being in control mentality.” This song is going to make you feel how it makes you feel, and you will have no control over it, but that’s the beauty behind the track. It adds a sense of thrill but don’t be scared. You can trust Ferdinand the Bull because, as you will quickly hear, everything about this track is raw and exposed as if this song and Ferdinand the Bull knows you more than you may even know yourself.
