The Carolyn is one of those bands that I have been following for some time now, and, all of a sudden, they seem to be hitting the stride that I knew they would. They went from a band that I had to kind of dig to find in my playlists to one that seems to be at the top of every playlist I put on to help me get through the day and that makes me so happy but it’s no surprise when they are putting out pure gold lke “White Russians.”
I would call The Carolyn a pop-punk band with more punk-leaning roots than pop-influence but I could see how some would think of this band the other way around. A punk band with more pop-leaning roots. Either way, there’s no denying the power that this band can put into a song and there’s proof of that in “White Russians.” This song is about embracing discomfort and disappointment. That doesn’t sound super happy, I know but, truthfully, this song hit me like the best support system someone could ever ask for on a Thursday morning. There’s something tender about the approach of some of the vocals while the instrumentation stays powerful and defiant in a way. All of these things come together to form a wholly perfect anthem for anyone and everyone who needs an extra shoulder to lean on right now or just needs a little pick-me-up. “White Russians” is off of The Carolyn’s album ‘ Pyramid Scheme of Grief’, which is absolutely one of the most highly anticipated upcoming albums for me right now.
