Girl at the Rock Shows

Although I’ve somehow found the motivation to get things done today, I’m still struggling to keep the motivation up, and now that I’ve noticed it’s already lunch time, I’m ready to check out for the day and get to a show. That’s not an option, but what is an option is spending the rest of my day checking out more new music, so let’s just do that.

“Darkside” is the second single from Sometime Last Night, and it does a great job of showing a darker side of this pop-punk band. This song isn’t blatantly dark. In fact, it’s an explosive and powerful little bop but there is definitely a sense of moodiness, heartbreak, and angst that reigns supreme throughout this three and a half minute long song. With a boppy energy that feels a bit like Masked Intruder but an angst that leans more into a Distillers-inspired world, Sometime Last Night has found the perfect way of blending infectious energy with raw emotion. Sometime Last Night is an east coast band and hasn’t gone out on a full tour from what I can tell, but you best believe I am counting down the days until they make their way into the Midwest. Based on this song, Sometime Last Night is one of those bands that brings a deafening sense of power and passion to a live show, and I can’t wait until I get to experience it in real life.
