I recently got a copy of High Glow’s new album in the mail. I’m so excited to check it out, but because of life, I just haven’t had time yet. I’m eager to check this out, so although I may not have time to do a full album review today, I do have time to review “Hideaway,” one of the singles from the album.
Maybe it’s because I was at the PUP show last night, but I’m getting all of the PUP vibes from the way this song starts off. It’s slightly crunchy with a surf-punk kind of influence in the guitars, but there’s so much more to this song than just that. “Hideaway” has an almost nostalgic aura to it. There are elements of this song that seem to look back into the grunge and alt-rock scene of the ’90s, which, for a ’90s baby like myself, is everything I could ever ask for. At the same time, there’s this odd, almost dream-like pop element to this song that keeps it feeling fresh and light. “Hideaway” is packed full of energy, but it’s not aggressive. Instead, it’s the kind of energy that will warm you up into a Thursday that will surely be a bit busier and more stressful than you may want, making it the perfect listen for this morning. On top of that, listening to “Hideaway” absolutely has me even more eager to check out the album as a whole, so if you like what you hear here, make sure to check back in a couple of days and check out my review of the full album. Better yet– just check it out for yourself!
