It’s going to be an insane short week for me. I’m stoked because, not only is it a short week for me, it’s Riot Fest week, which is always my favorite week of the year, but at the same time, I’m already feeling the pressure and manic energy that comes with trying to fit a full week’s worth of work into just three days. I’m trying not to lose my cool, but it’s just a matter of time, so I’m trying to stock up on songs that will not only help me get through the week but will also help me through the long drive to Chicago.
I wasn’t given any background on this song or band, but within just a couple of seconds of “Fake It” from Long Gone, I was in love. This is a pop-punk-perfect kind of song, but it’s not as bright and sunny as some pop-punk jams are. There’s a tenderness and a maturity to this song that I instantly latched onto. Don’t get me wrong, this is a fun song and it’s full of energy, but there is just something a bit more cool, calm, and collected about this song when compared to my more standard pop-punk offerings. Not only is this song, in general, a banger, but I really liked the composition of the track and found it super unique. There’s an ebb and flow that feels organic, but it also keeps you on your feet, setting Long Gone apart from all of the other bands in this oversaturated scene.
