Today just got wacky and wild. Between the giant project that just landed on my desk at my day job, a group chat that is absolutely buzzing, and the non-stop onslaught of emails, I’m feeling manic and overwhelmed, but I’m somehow managing to keep it together. I’m not sure how, but why question a good thing? Instead, let’s celebrate it by checking out “Blood on the Ceiling” from Empired.

The first thing that struck me about “Blood on the Ceiling” was the vocals. They instantly reminded me of a toned-down Billy Talent with more of an almost grunge undertone to them. That’s what hooked me, but as I continued to listen to this song, I realized that there was so much more here that I truly adored. There’s power, but there’s also tenderness. This song tells the story of “growing up with a mentally unstable parent that struggles with addiction. The confusion, pain, and learning about love through forgiveness while also learning about hate as that forgiveness can backfire.” Truthfully, I can’t relate to that exact situation but feel like there are many lines of words in this song that could apply to so many other aspects of life. Empired reminds you that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and you just have to persevere, which, on a day like today, is just the message I need.
