Sometimes you need a song where you just listen to it and enjoy it. There’s no analyzing or reading between the lines, it’s a song that you literally just let take over your mind and soul and give you a few moments of calm during an insane day. That’s exactly what “Lucky Dog” from Dune Blue is.
Don’t get me wrong, this punk song will absolutely grab your attention with the energy that it brings to the table, but it’s just one of those songs that is fun to listen to and doesn’t require a lot of analyzing. It’s a punk track at its core, and you definitely get a punk sense of angst, but there’s also something almost surf-punk-inspired about some of this track. It creates a cool atmosphere that can both fill you with life while also bringing your heart rate down if you’re just having a moment of panic and stress. I want to call it “simple,” but I feel like that is almost rude to Dune Blue, as I, personally, could not play anything that happens in this song. That being said, there’s just something simple and easy about the way this song comes across, and I love that. Another thing I love is that this song is about the band’s favorite Brooklyn, NY dive, Lucky Dog. I’m all about songs that are about local haunts and the places that make musicians who they are (shout out to “Seeing Double at the Triple Rock” by NOFX).
