Girl at the Rock Shows

I am slowly but surely getting caught up after taking it a bit too easy this weekend. It feels good and, although I still have a crap ton of work ahead of me today, I think it’s time to celebrate getting as much done as I have so let’s check out another new song.

Dubinski is a quartet from Edinburgh that will absolutely and instantly win over your heart with their new song “Back To Basics.” Honestly, the lyrics of this song fit my day perfectly. That’s a bit strange to say since, at face value, this song is about the journey of finding balance and taking care of yourself, but some of the words and phrases in this almost Libertines-style anthem hit me right to the core. Me saying that this song is Libertines-style should say a lot, but just in case, you’ve been living under a rock, let me expand on that a bit. It’s English garage-punk. It’s got a bite to it, but there’s also something raw and vulnerable with some of the words and the presentation of said words. It’s a song that makes you feel like you’re walking aimlessly on cobblestone streets under a misty and hazy dark day. Okay, Ugly American here, I don’t know if that’s actually how things work over in Edinburgh, but that’s where my head went while I listened to this four-minute song. It may not sound like a great place, but for me, it was bliss, and I plan on spending the rest of my day in this make-believe land in my head while being serenaded by the one and only Dubinski.
