Today is crawling along. Okay, crawling may not be the right word as time is moving by oddly fast, but without a lot of day job emails coming in, it’s getting harder and harder to keep my eyes open and stay motivated with my other work. I feel like maybe a break and some new music is all I need to snap myself back into it, so let’s check out “Dream Stealer” from Future Dweller.
The first thing that struck me about this song is the power behind it. I would have put money on the idea that Future Dweller is a full band, so I was shocked to realize that this is actually just one man (Lewis Marriott) doing his best to sound like five people and, well, he nailed it. Although the instrumentation, at times, felt a little light and hollow, there is something so commanding and perfect about the power and emotion that comes through with every word. I wouldn’t call this song punk, metal, or anything super hyper-focused like that, but “Dream Stealer” is situated in the world of rock with arcs into many different vibes and feelings. I love that about this song because I feel like you get to really hear Future Dweller’s soul, not just hear someone trying to fit into a box.
