I love the winter– I really do, but when it starts to mess with my show calendar, I can get a bit crabby. I’m crabby today. Not only was my show on Sunday cancelled due to the snow, but now I fear that I may not be able to make it to my scheduled show tonight, just due to the icy road conditions and my lack of a four-wheel drive car. I’m not counting tonight’s show out quite yet, but based on my white-knuckle drive into work this morning, I’m not holding my breath either. This has nothing to do with “Keepsake Theory” from Hit Like A Girl, but it’s where my head is at this morning and why I need the distraction of some new music.
Hit Like A Girl is more than just a band; it’s a group of people who strive to represent trans and queer artists and inspire them to follow their dreams regardless of how creative they are. There’s something so uplifting about that, and I love how that message and feeling come through loud and clear throughout this triumphant three-and-a-half-minute song. I love the contrast between the vocals here. You have some that are super sweet and loving, but then an intense scream at the same time that almost lies underneath those sweeter vocals, emphasizing the thought that there are two sides to every story, two ways to look at every situation. Am I reading into this? Maybe, but really, “Keepsake Theory” is just a stellar song from a truly spectacular band, and it’s the best way to kick off your Tuesday.
