It has been a couple of months since I have shared the goodness that is Mermaid Island with you so I figured now is the perfect time to remind you: This band is absolutely worth your attention. You can start your obsession with this band by checking out their new-ish track, “He Started It.”
Although, in the grand scheme of things, Mermaid Island is a fairly new band having been brewing in the LA punk scene for about two years, their sound screams with a tried and true sound that you hear front and center throughout this angsty, three minute and sixteen second song. I really can not understate the amount of attitude that comes through in this track and how perfect it is. It’s raw and vulnerable but Mermaid Island has this uncanny way of taking that raw sound and creating something oddly polished in a way. I don’t mean polished in the sense of a radio hit. No, this song has too much heart and grit behind it to be a radio hit, but I mean polished with the way this group can convey so much emotion and talent through their recordings. Trust me, just one listen to “He Started It” and you will surely be as obsessed with Mermaid Island as I am.
