Girl at the Rock Shows

This is now the third song from Brie Stoner that I have shared with you. I really hope you’ve started paying attention because, clearly, Brie isn’t going anywhere. Brie’s new album ‘Matador’ will be out later this year but waiting for that to come has felt like torture so I am so stoked to be able to share “Avocado Tree” from this album as a bit of a teaser of sorts.

What has always struck me about Brie is her voice and that reigns true with this new song. It’s so soft, sweet, and delicate but, at the same time has such a sense of intensity and depth to it. Listening to each word from Brie is living diving into a whole new ocean and the way that she can somehow convey multiple emotions in just a single syllable is something that I will never quite understand but always appreciate. “Avocado Tree” is not a fast song in fact, it’s pretty slow moving but the delicate intricacies scattered throughout the track make it feel like an exciting treasure hunt in a way. You are constantly waiting to hear what comes next, what beautiful word will dance over the instrumentation in such a way that it steals a heartbeat with every passing beat of the track. Dramatic? Sure, but this song is dramatic in all of the right ways so I guess it makes sense to feel something so deep and, well, dramatic.

“Avocado Tree is a song that captures the early rush of first love, the dream that acts as a hook and pulls you from me to we. For me, there was an experience of love that happened while I was on the road and the pull to come home to California and begin living into this dreamy sunset scene that was warmly unfolding was just such a strong feeling.

My apartment in California at the time had this avocado tree…I used to bat at it with a broom and hold a laundry basket under it to catch them. And the sun would always shine through the leaves at sunset and it just became engraved in my psyche as the place where I was able to let my hair down and feel at home. I guess that’s why it had to feature in this song too… idk maybe we all need a little California love story and dream right now.”

I promise you, just one listen to “Avocado Tree” will not only give you that little California love story and dream, it will make you fall head over heels for Brie Stoner so, what are you waiting for?
