I don’t know why but the marriage between this band name (Can you not?) and the song title (“Thanks, homie!”) made me snicker. It feels like they are competing thoughts and feelings. The band name has this almost negative and annoyed feeling where as the song title feels appreciate and almost joyous. Just me feeling this? That’s quite possible but don’t let the weird way this band name and song title hit me stop you from checking out this track.
This song is messy but more in an emotional way and it instantly hit a bit too close to home. It’s a song about that delicate and dangerous dance between growth and self-sabotage and about doing things that you may know are wrong but doing it anyway. There’s pain and there’s anxiety front and center in this song but there’s this subtle sense of defiance that comes through in the background and, eventually, takes over this song that I instantly latched onto. “Thanks, homie!” is a good reminder that nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes and, although we may say we will learn from them, let’s be honest, that’s not always the case. Can you not? isn’t just a band in this song, they are a support system and it’s a support system that I think we all need a little bit of so check out this amazing song and show this band some love!
