Girl at the Rock Shows

Although busy, my day hasn’t gotten away from me yet (knock on wood) so I feel like I can spend a few minutes taking another break and checking out “Flying Colours” from Numbskull Narrative. Although just a two and a half minute long song, this song and band instantly consumed me and will clearly lead me down the rabbit hole that is Numbskull Narrative for the remainder of my day.

To say that this song is powerful would be such a painful understatement. It has grit and a sense of energy that feels like a swift kick to the ass while also giving you a triumphant feeling that makes you feel ready to take on the world. The overall sound of this song is thrashy and hardcore with clear nods to the old-school greats of those genres but also a clear spin that makes the track feel modern and fresh. “Flying Colours” is part of Numbskull Narrative’s new EP which, as the band puts it, “explores the idea of the Gutters, the lowest places, where emotions collect and drain away…” I know that seems a bit daunting and dark but, really I think that’s the perfect way to describe this song. It’s intense but it’s emotional. You can feel a sense of catharsis throughout this song or you can just get lost in the overwhelming power that radiates throughout every beat of it. Either way, I have a feeling that, like me, you will become instantly obsessed with this Irish trashcore-metal-punk band and will be left wanting so much more.
