Everything about this band name and song title screams “epic” to me. Maybe that’s just me, but calling a song “The Quest” leaves the bar pretty dang high, and not knowing anything about Fighting Godot, I’m not sure that they will be able to meet the bar. Like I often say, I worry far too much. I knew within the first few seconds of this song that Fighting Godot had met that bar and then some.
As the band puts it, “The Quest” is an “allyship rally cry for the LGBTQIA+ community.” “Rally Cry” is truly the best way to describe this song. Although it’s perfectly situated in the pop-punk world, this song’s angst and energy make it electric. This Chicago-based band sure has a way of combining a sense of catchiness with a raw, heart-on-sleeve lyric style, and I love the way that comes through loud and clear in this single. This song is highly political which is right up my ally but if you’re not in the mood for politics today, have no fear, it’s so much more than that. It’s an infectious bop that will instantly get stuck in your head and have you wanting so much more from this nostalgia-inducing pop-punk band.
