I’m a pop-punk princess. I don’t hide that, so of course, I was stoked when a new song from Mayday Parade came across my desk. I wouldn’t call this band one of the original pop-punk bands that got me into the scene, but they definitely continued my journey deeper into the scene and, to this day, remain a standard in the daily playlist of my life with some of their classic anthems. Within the first listen of this new song, I knew that this song deserved to be on those playlists alongside some of the golden oldies from them.
“Blame It On The Youth” is an anthem for the reckless. It instantly took me back to when I was a bit more carefree and a little less anxious about everything. Built around a chorus done by drummer Jake Bundrick, this song reminds you that life is too short. Mayday Parade reminds you to have fun as we all try desperately to get through this thing called life. Guitarist Brooks Betts shares, “Jake came in with this amazing song that we were all drawn to. We knew instantly it was important to get the track right but we really just had a solid chorus and loose verse melodies so the band quickly got to work constructing multiple versions of lyrics to finish the track. We worked together in a way that was truly collaborative, and with the process, we feel we created something we are all super proud of.” This is absolutely something to be proud of. From the infectious energy of the song to the random memories shown in the super fun video that comes with it, Mayday Parade proves with “Blame It On The Youth” that they aren’t going anywhere while giving you a head full of nostalgia.
