I had a pretty rocky weekend if you didn’t already catch onto that from my review of Saturday night’s show. It was rocky enough that I went to another show on Sunday, but didn’t write a word and didn’t take a single photo. I needed to just escape from the world and get lost in a world that I find comfort in- live music. Now it’s Monday and, as we all know, time doesn’t stop. The world keeps on turning, and I can’t continue to be stuck in my head all day while trying to do my job, so I want to start today off right, and I couldn’t think of a better way than with “Ranch” from Jared Armstrong.
Although I caught onto the upbeat nature of this song and the infectious energy I so badly needed on this Monday morning, I love how heartbreaking the track’s story is. It’s about when the damage is done. When you ruin a relationship because of something you’ve done, but you change those things only to find it’s too far gone, there’s no going back. You can feel that heartbreak in the vocals throughout this track, but Jared Armstrong’s energy keeps it from turning into a complete tear-jerker. On top of that, there’s something so relatable about the story of this song. We’ve all made mistakes that we can’t come back from, but I love how this song reminds you that, ultimately, that’s life, and it doesn’t mean you need to sit there in regret. We learn something new every day about ourselves and the people we surround ourselves with. Although that definitely comes with some heartache, it also is what we call life and is what keeps life always changing and morphing into new and exciting things.
