I know it’s early, but I’m somehow already sitting in a good spot with work and feel like that’s a call for a small celebration. Knock on wood, but I feel like I already have time to stop everything and check out some new music, so let’s do just that and kick today off with “Godziller” from Esther Kohl.

Esther Kohl is a Brooklyn-based musician who mixes a little bit of everything with, well, a little bit of everything. You can hear that throughout this super-fun, unique three-minute-and-thirteen-second track. Right off the bat, Esther hits you with a super cool electronic sound, complete with an almost industrial-style heavy beat. Although neither of those things ever disappears into this song, everything shifts as Esther’s more standard indie-alt-rock vocals come in, adding a twist to everything else. I love how the mood of this song seems to constantly shift, just like the style. There are moments that may make you want to raise a fist and stomp your feet, but those moments are quickly followed up by blissful seconds of slight motivation. Really, nothing about this song makes sense, which makes it hard to write about, but, at the same time, that’s what makes “Godziller” such a beautiful journey to start your Wednesday off with.
