I should really take mental health days more often. It’s not even lunchtime, and I feel like I’ve gotten more done today than I have in the past month. Laundry is chugging along in the basement, litter boxes are clean, and I finally cataloged all the tickets and wristbands piling up on my desk —today feels great, and there’s no stopping me from enjoying this productive Friday and filling it with more songs to help me keep it up.
“Back of the Room” from Slow Motion Sadface is the third single from the band’s latest EP out on Bad Catt Records. The comparisons I could make here are clear from The Strokes to Arctic Monkeys but there’s so much more than just a taste of early 2000s indie nostalgia here. There’s an electric energy that puts you front and center at a Slow Motion Sadface show. Okay, not really, but this track oozes a sense of swagger that makes you feel like you are watching the band perform live even though, clearly, you are just listening to a recording. I hope the day comes when I get to see this Philadelphia-based band live, but until then I’ll just have to listen to “Back of the Room” and the rest of their latest EP, ‘Sea Change (or Just the Tide)’ on repeat.
