It has been non-stop emailing all morning. Seriously. I think I’m at over a thousand emails already and the day is still young but I could really use a “new music break”. This one comes to you from peach tinted’s ‘Cinematic Youth’ EP that came out last year.
This quick EP kicks off with a beautiful piano part. The beginning of “New Beginning” had me absolutely entranced and I honestly could have listened to this piano portion for hours on end and not gotten bored with it but, after under a minute, layers start coming in shifting this track into something even more captivating than the piano alone. The vocals are a bit fuzzy, a bit echoey and have an almost electronic hue to them. I loved how you could hear the various layers in this track while you never got distracted by one or the other. The balance between everything going on in this busy song is perfect and creates a truly unique and amazing atmosphere.
Things shift ever so slightly for “The Unknown” bringing a bit more power to the table which instantly made this a favorite track of mine. Whereas “New Beginning” was captivating, I found “The Unknown” to be addicting. The vocals come in and take up a bit more of the spotlight and they were saying all of the right words both literally and figuratively. Although there’s no denying the power in this track, there’s something so very relaxed and chill about this track overall that I just could not get enough of and hope to hear more of in the remaining two tracks of this all-too-quick EP.
“Fool’s Paradise” brings back that more electronic hue that I heard in “New Beginning” while keeping the power in line with what was felt during “The Unknown”. Although this more electronic influence isn’t typically my cup of tea, the way that it blends with various other genres and influences makes it feel so unique and absolutely had me sold on peach tinted’s overall sound. I absolutely love the fact that this track would both work for a night when you want to dance and a night when you just want to lay back with a glass of wine. That versatility is something that peach tinted does oh so very well.
The title track, “Cinematic Youth”, closes out this quick EP with a vibe that you will not soon forget. Again, a perfect blend of danciness and calmness, I found myself tapping my toe throughout this infectious final song and wanting oh so much more as the album ended and left me in silence. Again, showcasing their ability to find the perfect balance of energy and calm, peach tinted closing this album with this track was genius because it made me want to continue digging into their music.
