I was enthralled the second that I saw The False Alarms’ music video for “WHAT’RE WE NOW?”. It instantly caught me with the peace of the beginning of the track but it didn’t stay peaceful and calm for long.
This track is angsty and the video absolutely matches that. I dug into the meaning of this track a bit more and although it’s about entering your 20’s amidst the pandemic, it can apply to so many othe moments in life and I loved that. The amount of energy and passion in the lyrical content and instrumentation is deafening in all of the right ways.
The best comparison for this song in particular would be old school AFI. Even the vocalist in the video seems to have a very Davey Havok look to him but this is not a carbon copy. The movements throughout this song are stark. It goes from intense to calm in the blink of an eye and has unexpected twists and turns throughout the nearly three minutes that it lasts. It’s one of those songs that, when said and done, will leave you wanting so much more.
