The drum part that kicks off “Boys in the Gutter” by The Empty Threats is fairly simple but it instantly caught my attention. Although that drum part only lasts for a couple of seconds, the song continues into a very powerful and anthemic track with super important lyrics. I’m not going to give the subject matter away but it was refreshing to hear the words used in this song.
Overall, this track has an almost retro vibe to it which makes sense as it was mastered by Matt Colton of Metropolis Studios who has worked with The Arctic Monkeys. You definitely get that vibe from this track but also get a more garage-punk style from the overall song which I found to be absolutely addicting.
There’s energy, passion, and angst throughout this track which makes the already short song seem to fly by but not before getting you hooked on The Empty Threats.
