“Yukon Suckerpunch” from Dusty Cubby is one of those songs that instantly makes you smile. It’s fun, poppy, and a bit in your face. It’s that perfect pick me up song for an overcast Tuesday morning when you are struggling to find the motivation to get your to-do list done which made it the perfect song for me this morning.
“Yukon Suckerpunch” has a classic pop-punk song vibe but there’s just a bit more of an edge to the vocals than most pop-punk songs. It almost has a garage-punk vibe but also has a pretty epic breakdown about a minute and a half into the track and even a softer, more tender part right around the two and a half minute mark. This song really goes through the gamut of styles and vibes in the quick two minutes and forty-nine seconds that it lasts and I love that. I feel like it gives you a peek into Dusty Cubby as a band but also leaves so many questions about what this band is all about which means I will be spending the rest of my morning digging into some of their other tracks.
