I don’t know how Junior Choir has slipped under my radar for so long but this local Minneapolis act absolutely has my attention after hearing “Through The Aether”.
From the calming acoustic guitar that kicks the track off to the almost post-hardcore inspired overall composition, this track had me entranced throughout the over six minutes that it took over my house and heart. The vocals definitely lean towards an emo vibe but I struggle to call this track emo in the traditional sense of the words. Sure, the song evokes emotion but it doesn’t make me think of the early 2000s in any way which is what I equate to be emo music. That being said, there are clear nods to many bands that came from that era yet somehow Junior Choir keeps it from feel like a nostalgic or redone track.
I can not stress how lost I got in this track and although six minutes is way past what I typically devote to new singles just due to how many I listen to on a daily basis, Junior Choir had me in the palm of their hands throughout this song and, honestly, when it was said and done, all I wanted to do was go back and listen to it all over again.
