It’s Monday. For better, or for worse, we’ve made it and I know it’s cliche but today is a particularly Monday-y feeling Monday. Thankfully, I have “Haberdashery” from oldolibo to help scare away those Monday blues.
“Haberdashery” is the debut single from this New Orleans-based band and that breaks my heart because, after hearing this single, all I want to do is hear more from this truly intriguing and distinct band. A little bit of blues, folk-punk, and cabaret are the best genres I can think of to describe this song but even that doesn’t seem to do this track justice. At moments, I had vivid images of Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas stuck in my head due to the vocal stylings in this track but, at others, I could envision a smoky jazz club with people dancing in flapper dresses while holding their fancy cigarette holders. Seriously, regardless of where this song takes you, just listening to “Haberdashery” will take you away from your normal day and, to say that it’s a thrilling journey worth taking would be an understatement.
