I tend to get super nostalgic when it comes to my daily playlist around Riot Fest time. Maybe it’s just the fact that going to a festival like Riot year after year is something my younger self only ever dreamed of or maybe it’s because there are always some highly nostalgic acts on the line-up. Regardless, it has me going down a hole of old music and bands that I hadn’t really thought about in years but instantly got re-hooked on them after a quick jaunt down memory lane. The Sleeping is one of those bands and it felt serendipitous that I was listening to them a couple of days ago and then got their new single “No Light” in my inbox.
The Sleeping is back with their unique brand of alt-rock / post-punk vibes with a slight emo hint to them and their single “No Light” is a perfect example of how everything has changed but it’s also the same. This song has the band’s signature sound attached to it but there’s something a bit more restrained and almost mature about this track when compared to the previous four albums from this band. Much like the fans that have grown up a hell of a lot since the release of The Sleeping’s 2006 album ‘Questions and Answers’, I feel like “No Light” hits the spot because you can hear and feel the band’s growth.
Even if you weren’t a huge fan of The Sleeping back in the day or have never even heard of them before, “No Light” is a solid song full of life, energy, and passion so give it a listen and hop on this train!
