Sometimes all it takes is a couple of words to hook me into a song. That’s how I got hooked on “Witch Hazel” from Jackbones.
This track starts with the heartbreaking words, “When I die…”. It’s not so much the words that caught me here but more the tone. Jackbones’ vocals are slightly shaky giving the phrase a layer of depth that left me with chills. Even when the instrumentation comes in to supplement the vocals, there’s an undeniable sense of emotional power in this song. The words continue to be raw and deep creating a relatable storyline that is easy to follow. Another highlight of this song is the ebb and flow of the entirety of it. Although it’s nearly six minutes long, I feel like the rises and falls make it feel much shorter than that. This is truly one of those epic tracks that will take you on a journey far away from whatever you’re supposed to be doing at any given time (which is a blessing the majority of the time). “Witch Hazel” is an easy song to fall into and Jackbones is one of those acts that you will instantly feel close to upon first listen.
