I am determined to make 2024 an epic year so it seems only fitting that one of the first tracks I share with you this year be a truly epic song and to say that “Ancient Master” from The Last King is epic would be an understatement.
“Ancient Master” is The Last King’s first new release in two and a half years but everything about this epic three and a half minute song is so tight that you would never have guessed that this band had taken a brief hiatus. With a inspiration rooted in the horror film “The Collector”, this song instantly grabs you and relentlessly punches you in the eardrums throughout the entirety. I, of course, mean this all in the best way possible. Although it’s an unrelenting song, I love how you can clearly hear all of the elements throughout it. Sure, it’s loud and a bit chaotic but there was never a point where I had strain to hear the vocals or fight to hone in on the guitar work. Regardless of what element I found myself paying attention to, I was both in awe and enamored by everything about this track. I didn’t think I was in the mood for heavy-heavy music today but The Last King has definitely changed my mind. I can’t wait to check out more singles from them and their upcoming album ‘Culling From Gods’ which should be out soon!
