My obsession with music (both live and recorded) started when I was an angsty teenager growing up in Des Moines, Iowa. I immersed myself in the local scene and made a bunch of amazing friends in the process. I still talk to some of them and still even see some of them on the rare occasion that I go back home but there are some that I have lost touch with. One of those people now goes by “Krantz” but I will always know him as Jeff from Rosefield Rivals. As soon as I saw the name Krantz come across my desk and heard the sound, I knew this was him and, like reuniting with an old friend, I was completely taken over by a sense of nostalgia and love as I listened to his new song “Louisiana”.

“Louisiana” starts off super soft and sweet. With nothing more than Krantz’s voice and a twinkling guitar, I thought I had this song pegged but, after just thirty seconds, Krantz hits you with a larger than life sound. Dabbling between a 90s alt-rock vibe and something a bit more Southern rock but with a very indie pop twist, there’s a sense of swagger and attitude in this song that can not be ignored. More impressive than that is the amount of heart that comes through loud and clear throughout this three minute song. This is a signature of Jeff’s and a reason why his old band Rosefield Rivals was always a favorite of mine. He does everything with so much heart and all of his words and notes are drenched in passion. “Louisiana” is no different. Sure, decades have passed since I last connected with Krantz but hearing his song from him was like having a visit from a long-lost friend. The fact that this song is flawless and definitely one I believe in is just the cherry on top.
