I’ll be honest, there for a little bit I was getting super sick of seeing Kellin Quinn’s name as a guest featuring on every song I heard. There’s no denying the talent and uniqueness of this vocalist but just having every song have that Sleeping With Sirens (Kellin’s band) vibe to it had been getting old. Then, out of nowhere, those submissions seemed to stop and I stopped seeing Kellin’s name on everything, until now. I honestly almost instantly wrote off “Fractured” from Last Night of Solace purely because of seeing Kellin’s name but something told me to give it a chance and now, as I listen to this song for probably the hundredth time, I am so thankful I did.
“Fractured” has a very dramatic and almost creepy intro. This intro doesn’t last long at only fifteen seconds but I love the way it almost lures you into Last Night of Solace’s world before you get his with their distinct sound that can best be described as aggressively powerful. If you don’t like shouted, this song is not for you. If you do like a little bit of angst and aggression in the morning, this is absolutely a song for you. Although it’s angsty and in-your-face, there’s a sense of separation between all of the parts making it easy to hear everything going on. With the constant hit of an almost hollow sounding drum, your ears may go a bit crazy trying to catch everything you want to in this song but, have no fear, you can do what I did and just put it on repeat for a little bit. Every time I hear this song, I hear a new element that I think is absolutely brilliant which, in turn, makes this song an absolute masterpiece.
