I’ve been so thrilled with all of these debut singles coming to me lately. I love checking out a band’s first try and putting a single out there. I’ll be honest, they don’t always hit and sometimes I know instantly that a band just won’t be for me but that’s not the case when it comes to Nothing Shameful and their debut single “Brick Lungs”.

“Brick Lungs” has a super big sound to it and a super well done video to match it. Okay, the video is a bit dramatic but it fits the early 2000s pop-punk world that I seem to not be able to get away from so perfectly. Fronted by Ethan Harrison (formerly of The Nixon Rodeo), Nothing Shameful have that emo-pop-punk-perfect nostalgia sound but also have a fresh take on it. Sure, I could sit here and relate this song to the greats like Taking Back Sunday and Brand New but “Brick Lungs” is so much more than that. Although it’s a playful bop, it has a sense of maturity and tenderness that comes in and out throughout the track. You won’t catch onto that maturity when watching the wrestling-based video that brings a sense of hilarity and playfulness to this track but that’s just one of the many things that really struck me about Nothing Shameful.
