Happy Wednesday, everyone. I’m feeling oddly caught up right now. I mean, I’m not completely caught up because I never truly will be given all of the work I put on myself, but I’m feeling like I’m getting a lot done and have the energy today to keep going. Taking a break to check out new music probably isn’t the best plan of attack given this burst of motivation but I’m just so excited to share “Upright,” the second single from Hidden Youth, with you so let’s take a little break and check it ouy.
I shared Hidden Youth’s first song, “Vignette,” just a couple of months ago, and now I’m back to remind you that this is a band to keep your eyes on. Hidden Youth is the kind of band that does everything with a sense of intention, and “Upright” is no different. It’s a hardcore-leaning pop-punk anthem with themes about mental health that resonate with anyone who has those bad days from time to time. It’s a powerful and explosive song in terms of instrumentation, but the vocals feel oddly tender and comforting. It reminds me slightly of bands like Banner Pilot and Iron Chic, but also has a bouncy aftertaste that feels almost like Four Year Strong or Set Your Goals. The intensity throughout this four-and-a-half-minute-long song is perfectly curated to fill you with life or act as an emotional support song if that’s what you’re looking for right now. It’s pretty insane to think about how this perfect song is only the second release from this Leeds-based band. It tells me that this is absolutely band to keep your eyes on so make sure to give them a follow and show them some love because this is clearly just the beginning when it comes to Hidden Youth.
