My heart is heavy today after hearing of the passing of “Front Row” Paul. Paul was and always will be a legend in the local Twin Cities music scene. His support of all things local music was unwavering and something to be envied. I know a lot of people are hurting today. We are all a bit in shock and just overall sad about the situation. I could sit here and be sad, but is that what Paul would want? I didn’t know him well but I’d like to think that he wants people to continue getting the word out about local and small bands so I’m going to push on and continue doing what I do– supporting small up and coming bands by bringing them to your attention starting today with Kings & Constables.
“RIP George Cooper” is the debut single from New Jersey-based Kings & Constables. It’s an anthemic pop-punk jam with no shortage of heart behind the words and delivery. This song has soaring choruses and absolutely shredding guitar parts, but there’s something somewhat tender about some of the verses in this song, giving the four-minute track a sense of depth that just can not be ignored. To add to that depth, this song is about change. It’s about feeling a bit lost, but it also has a triumphant energy behind it as if showing that, even if you’re feeling lost, you can make it through to the other side if you just hang on a bit longer. It’s a bit cliche, I know, but for a day where my heart is feeling so heavy, “RIP George Cooper” was the perfect song to kick my day off with.
