The title of this song made me chuckle because, truthfully, it hit me a bit too close to home. I’m still sick as a dog on the outside with a constantly running nose interrupted only by sneezes that seem to strike every ten minutes like clockwork. Other than that, though, I’m great and feeling like I can take on the world, so, internally, the phrase “Can You Be OK?” is hitting to the core because that’s what I want to ask my sinuses point blank. Although this song from Jake Cassman is not about trying to get your body to stop being sick, it does have a sense of humor behind it that only enhances the charm that Jake Cassman always brings to a song.

Jake Cassman asks the tricky question of whether you’re settling down or just settling in this four-minute-long folk-rock song. Although I feel that’s a super deep and quite profound question, there’s something about Jake’s electrifying and infectious energy that keeps this song from becoming too serious. Add the feeling of sunshine that seems to pour through with every passing beat in this song, and you are left with an instant classic. “Can You Be OK?” is the kind of song to play at the top volume when you need a little encouragement or just need to feel that, at the end of the day, you’re doing okay. It’s anthemic but not cliche, powerful but not abrasive. Long story short, in true Jake Cassman, “Can You Be OK?” is a perfect song through and through.
