“Crucify Me” by ILUKA is, admittedly, not one of my standard shares. There’s no brutal breakdown, no pop-punk nostalgia, really no angst or aggression to speak of, but it caught me all the same. From the song itself to the visuals that come in the video, “Crucify Me” from ILUKA is definitely one of a kind, a stunner of a track.
“Crucify Me” is an electro-pop anthem that is absolutely drenched in swagger. It’s a track about the relentless scrutiny placed on women. To say that the lyrics of this song hit straight to my core would be an understatement. Truthfully, it is hard being a woman in this day and age. There are so many things that we should be and that we should do, but ILUKA puts that all in question and reclaims the power that comes with being a woman. As mentioned, the visuals of the video that accompanies this song are truly stunning. From the wardrobe to the bright colors that, as the song moves on, become slightly muted as if to show the struggle of being a woman, something about this song will surely catch you, whether in the actual music or just in the video. ILUKA is said to have a cult like following, and after listening to and watching this song over and over again, I get it and am beyond okay with saying that I am officially part of the ILUKA cult.
