My check engine light came on yesterday morning on my way to work. I’m trying not to freak out about it, but I’ll be honest, it has me a bit on edge. I’ve had this car for almost ten years now and haven’t had a single issue with it. Was it all too good to be true? Is it the beginning of the end for my little orange tic-tac? Obviously, I hope that’s not the case and it’s a super easy fix or just a bumped sensor, but, like Andrew Southern, “Idk Shit About Cars,” so who knows. I’ll have to take it into the shop and cross my fingers and toes.

Although this whole situation has me a bit on edge, this song does not. Honestly, I had no clue that this was a cover of an Evan Honer song until I noticed a small note on the track submission. Even when I read that, it meant nothing to me because I had never heard of Evan Honer. That being said, I highly suggest that you check out the original after hearing this cover done by Andrew Southern. The original is a country/ folk-leaning song, but this version is more amped up. It feels like the best pop-punk meets country kind of song, but the only “country” thing left in this song is the lyrics. I don’t know why, but it just feels a bit like a cliche country song, only flipped around. You know the joke, in a country song, your wife leaves you, the truck breaks down, and then your dog runs away, it starts storming, and you’re lost on a dark country road? This song has a similar vibe, but with more tongue-in-cheek sarcasm behind it. Although I didn’t get anything super deep from this track, it had me smiling from beginning to end, and it made for the perfect way to start off my Tuesday, and it was a good reminder that I’m not the only one who doesn’t know shit about cars.
