Not to jinx it or anything, but it’s been a fairly calm and quiet morning at the day job thus far, and I’m here for it. It has given me a chance to get caught up on some of my own work while getting ahead at the same time. It’s a great feeling, and I think it calls for a little celebration of sorts, so let’s check out a new track as a bit of a prize for feeling more caught up than usual.
Although most people would think that a celebration calls for upbeat and infectious music, “calling back the taurus” from The Ivy Crown is hitting the spot with all of its angsty and post-hardcore goodness. At just over three and a half minutes long, I love how this song seems to be an epic journey of sorts through a wide array of styles. At first, I was getting an almost grunge vibe from this song, but as it moves on, you get to hear the more classic post-hardcore traditions of The Ivy Crown. The song keeps going, and the band keeps weaving other elements into their song. There was a little bit of everything from alt-rock angst to something almost Incubus-styled yet eerie. I loved it and love how I was able to see so many sides of this band in just one song. I can’t wait to check out what else The Ivy Crown has out there because, if “calling back the taurus” is any indication, this band has a heck of a lot to offer.
