They say that the occupation is over. That life will get back to normal here in the Twin Cities. I’ll be honest, I don’t believe it but I am feeling a slight sense of joy hearing that the war may be coming to an end. The past seventy plus days have felt like climbing a “Mountain.” An endless “Mountain” of pain, fear, distrust, hate, and all things bad but we are almost at the top and ready to climb down while picking up the pieces. Okay, maybe I’m stretching to make my thoughts this morning fit the name of this new song from Gaijin Smash but don’t let that stop you from checking out this super amazing single.
To say that “Mountain” is explosive feels like such an understatement. This is more than explosive, it’s iconic, it’s legendary, it’s perfect. The first single from Gaijin Smash’s upcoming EP ‘Humans’ (set for release on July 2nd), “Mountain” is a high-octane track full of grit and power but also full of thought and emotion. It’s a bilingual song that jumps from Japanese to English with ease. Although I couldn’t understand the Japanese portions of this song, the message was not lost on me. You can feel the weight of the words through the raw and urgent sound that this trio puts into their music. Although I picked up on the sense of urgency and strength, there’s no denying that there’s this element of straight-up infectious fun in this track. All of these things create a song that is truly a perfect way to jumpstart your day.
