Girl at the Rock Shows

I haven’t been to New York in well over a decade. Maybe it’s even been two. Growing up, we spent a lot of time in Rochester, New York, as that’s where my dad is originally from. I loved upstate, but I loved the sporadic trips to New York City just as much. The size of that state is truly insane, and the contrasts between Manhattan and Rochester made me fall in love with the state. Not in love enough to move there, but in love enough to miss the crap out of New York now that it’s been years since I’ve been there. This has nothing to do with Bad Island Easter’s new song “Size of New York” outside of the name, but don’t let this silly little intro stop you from checking out this amazing track.

The tone of the guitars that kick off this three-minute song feels like an alarm, but not in an annoying way. They are catchy and definitely grab your attention as they pull you into Bad Island Easter’s world of swagger-drenched alt-rock. The comparisons I could make to this band range from The Dirty Nil to something a bit more classic and a bit more timeless. I love how this band has somehow split the difference between classic and modern while making sure that their own unique spin on alt-rock comes through loud and clear throughout the song. Although I would have loved to hear a bit more angst throughout this song, I love how it stays powerful yet calm, and the moments of angst it highlights hit super hard and super perfectly. As the band questioned, “Are you ready to rock?!” If so, this song is absolutely for you. If not, you should still check out “Size of New York” from Bad Island Easter because it will absolutely prepare you to rock.
