Happy Tuesday, everyone. I’m absolutely dragging today. There’s really no reason for it. I wasn’t out super late last night but I feel like my mind has just been going a million miles an hour and, because of that, I’m drained. Life doesn’t stop, though, and I need to buckle down and get some serious work done today, so here’s to hoping that filling my day with new music will help get me through it.
“City Lights” from Stay Out is the kind of energy I need today. It’s a very Alkaline Trio-feeling kind of song. It’s a driving punk anthem about, well, life. There’s a little bit of everything when it comes to the message of this song. There’s a positivity that comes through the self-discovery that is talked about throughout this song, but there’s also a sense of despair as the song talks about being constantly reminded of someone or something that is no longer there. Really, this song is about how every struggle and hardship we face helps create the person that we are, and how, at the end of the day, it’s all just part of it, how it goes. Sure, that can be a bit dark and daunting to think about, but when you have the infectious energy and perfect sound that is Stay Out to present it all to you, it doesn’t feel as dark and complicated.
